 Historical Note

In 1896 the Department of Domestic Economy was established at Ohio State University under the College of Agriculture, later becoming the School of Home Economics. By 1969, the School had five different divisions, one of which was Home Economics Education. In 1975, these divisions became departments. The School of Home Economics became a College in 1983. In 1997, the Department of Home Economics Education was merged with the Department of Family Relations and Human Development to become the Department of Human Development and Family Science.
