 Historical Note

In 1882, The Ohio State University established the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station (OAES) to direct agricultural research on campus through an act of the state legislature. The act was later amended to establish a Board of Control in 1882 as the "control and general management of the Experiment Station." It consisted of five members, three of which were appointed by the Governor. The Board of Control appointed a director of the station and made an annual report. Later federal legislation established separate funding for the Station, separating it from the University. In 1965, the name of the Station became the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC). In 1982, new legislation officially merged the Center back with the Ohio State University.
