Historical Note

In the early 1920's, Ohio State University's Agricultural Extension Service began research on apple blotch control. Later, a centralized spray program was developed by Extension's plant pathologists, known as the Ohio Spray Service. This was an informational service that collected recommendations from different parts of the state, assembled them, and distributed them through the radio and mail. This allowed farmers to time their sprays according to information gathered about pests, weather and other conditions. The service, along with various new research endeavors in fruit sprays, were carried out by the Agricultural Extension Service until the 1960's.
