 Historical Note

The Ohio State University, Department of Animal Sciences began with the appointment of Professor Charles Plumb of Animal Husbandry in 1902. The Department of Animal Husbandry was officially established in 1903, and later became known as the Department of Animal Science. Its courses expanded over the years to include meat production. In 1994, the reorganization of the College of Agriculture brought the Departments of Dairy Science, Poultry Science and Animal Sciences into one combined department called the Department of Animal Sciences.

The Ohio State University, Department of Animal Sciences Records contain reports from the department and the meat laboratory, faculty files, and publications by and about various faculty members, including the first professor of the department, Charles S. Plumb, as well as other publications from the department. The materials date from 1909-circa 2005.
