 Historical Note

The Ohio State University Department of Agronomy was established in 1905, though classes in agronomy were offered as early as 1873. In 1915, it was divided into the Departments of Farm Crops and Soils. These were integrated again in 1933. In 1996, the Department of Horticulture and the faculty in agronomic crops from the Department of Agronomy were consolidated to form the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science.

Ohio State University, Department of Agronomy Records contain a history of the department, research proposals, annual reports, certificates, awards, files related to the Ohio Soil Inventory Board, minutes of the Agriculture Faculty Council, newsletters, and other publications.
