The Department of Anesthesiology at the Ohio State University was founded in 1945 when Dr. Robert Zollinger was appointed as a professor of surgery; he asked the University’s College of Medicine to hire a full-time anesthesiologist. In 1947, anesthesia was formally established as a division of the Department of Surgery. As of 2019, the Department has helped to develop over a dozen groundbreaking techniques in the field of Anesthesiology.
The Ohio State University Medical Center, Department of Anesthesiology Records contains an annual report and a booklet dating from circa 1990s and 2006.
