The Alumni Records Division was officially started in 1930 as a part of the Office of Educational Services. Its purpose was to keep track of all graduates of the Ohio State University once they graduated; they also used to be in charge of allocating football tickets to alumnae. In 1939 or 1940, the responsibility for the Division was placed under the Alumni Office. Graduate information was gleaned from newspaper articles and alumni surveys distributed via mail; at one point, there were 111 filing cabinets full of information on graduates. In 1970, the name was changed to the Alumni Information Center (AIC) and moved under University Development during the major structural organization the Ohio State University underwent that same year. The AIC also computerized all of their records that year, allowing for easier searching and cross-referencing. As of 2017, the Alumni Information Center has been absorbed by the Ohio State University University Communications, which is in charge of publicity and public relations for the Ohio State University.
The Ohio State University, University Communications, Alumni Information Center Records contain office reference files from the AIC; these files have information on Ohio State University alumni who represented Ohio State University at collegiate presidential inaugurations, meeting minutes, and correspondence. These items date from 1973 through 1991.
