William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody (1846-1917) was a guide, scout, frontiersman, showman, actor, entrepreneur, town founder, and American icon. He opened Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show in 1883, where during the first season his partner was a dentist and exhibition shooter, Dr. W.F. Carver. The show eventually went bankrupt in 1913. Wild West Shows were outdoor extravaganzas that came out of the Great Plains during the late 19th and early 20th century that displayed events of the Old West, beginning in 1883 with Buffalo Bill. Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show did reenactments of frontier events and displays of western outdoors skills, such as marksmanship.
