<p>Sam Locke (1917-1998) was a writer who wrote scripts for television, radio, theatre, and film. He wrote the musical books for six musicals, and had one play,
<emph render="italic">Fair Game</emph>, that was performed on Broadway. In the 1950s, Locke began writing scripts for television shows such as

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>The Sam Locke Papers document Locke's theatrical writing career in the form of scripts, materials from two disassembled scrapbooks, posters, and correspondence. Also contained in the collection are drafts of an unpublished book about producer Sam Jaffe, an oral history interview recording of Locke on audiocassette, and personal materials. The collection dates from circa 1920 to 1995.</p>
<p>Included in the collection are photographs and ephemera removed from a personal scrapbook, including photographs of family and friends; items from this scrapbook have titles that begin with the words "Scrapbook photographs." The collection also contains materials from a second disassembled scrapbook, this one concerning productions of Locke's 1957 play
<emph render="italic"> Fair Game</emph>. Materials from that scrapbook have titles beginning with the words "
<emph render="italic">Fair Game</emph> scrapbook." Both scrapbooks were disassembled and discarded prior to Locke giving them to the Ohio State University Libraries.</p>
<p>Locke refers to the Sam Jaffe book project as an autobiography within his papers; however, the materials in this collection were written by Locke to be a biography of Jaffe.</p>
