        <bioghist id="ref24">
            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Simon Lissim (1900-1981) was born in Kiev, Ukraine. He was a painter and stage and costume designer, and studied at the art school of A.S. Monko circa 1917. In 1919, Lissim emigrated to France, and in 1920 he studied at the art school of Reimann in Berlin and lived in Wiesbaden and London. In 1922, he studied at the French National School of Decorative Arts, and by 1923 Lissim worked at the Theatre de L'Oeuvre. From the end of 1921, Lissim lived and worked in Paris until he immigrated to the United States in 1941.</p>
