Biographical Note

Senta Driver was a dancer, choreographer, and writer; she began studying dance in graduate school, and received her masters in dance from the Ohio State University in 1966. Following graduation, Driver joined the Paul Taylor Dance Company of New York City in 1967, which she danced with until 1973. In 1974, she founded her own dance company, HARRY, also based in New York City. Driver choreographed and danced with the company until 1991. At this time, she closed the company due to lack of funds, and trained as a neonatal ICU nurse. As of 2019, Driver is working on a book about her family's genealogical history.

The Senta Driver Papers, dated 1970s-1989, 2000, consist of items from Driver's career as a choreographer and dancer. The collection contains items documenting Driver's career as a choreographer, such as correspondence, two VHS videocassettes of 'Ten Minutes with HARRY: Dance and Other Works by Senta Driver,' and a magnetic audiotape soundtrack for one of her dances, 'board fade except.' Copies of excerpts from her journal selected for a retrospective exhibition on her work, as well as a poster containing an image of Driver dancing, document Driver's career as a dancer as well as a choreographer.
