Dr. Samuel Hartman founded the Hartman Theater, which opened on November 13, 1911 on State Street in Columbus, Ohio. Hartman Theater's doors were open until 1969, and while open hosted both theatrical performances and films. The theater held professional performances by both a local company, the Bentley-Hartman Players, as well as traveling companies. The theater was later demolished in 1971. As of 2020, a parking lot exists where it once stood, across from the Statehouse in Columbus, Ohio.
