            <head>Historical Note</head>
            <p>
                <emph render="italic">Jubilee</emph> is a musical that premiered on Broadway in 1935, where it ran until 1936; the book is by Moss Hart, and the lyrics are by Cole Porter. It tells the story of a fictional European country whose monarchy is threatened by a revolution. As a result, the Royal Family sets aside their royal obligations and instead follow their hearts and seek love. Hart and Porter were inspired to write the musical by the then-recent silver jubilee of King George V of the United Kingdom.</p>
            <p>The original production of 
                <emph render="italic">Jubilee</emph> opened in Boston on September 21, 1935 for a pre-Broadway trial run; it opened on Broadway on October 12, 1935, and closed on May 7, 1936. This first production was staged by Hassard Short, directed by Monty Wooley, sets designed by Jo Mielziner, and choreographed by Albertina Rasch and Tony De Marco.</p>

            <p>The 
                <emph render="italic">Jubilee</emph> Production Personnel Photographs were taken by an unknown photographer and date from 1935-1936. They consist of eleven black and white photographs, most of which show chorus members rehearsing on stage for the original Broadway production of the show, and socializing. Other photographs have captions on the back identifying who is shown in the photograph; labelled photographs show the director Hassard Short at a costume fitting, choreographer Albertina Rasch watching rehearsal, and unidentified chorus members in costume.</p>
