He choreographed works for the Cleveland Performance Art Festival and the OSU Wexner Center for the Arts, and also created The Fire Still Burns with the OSU Department of Theatre. The John Giffin Papers dated 1964-2000s, bulk 1990s-2008, contain production notes, publicity, and recordings related to The Fire Still Burns, as well as research about the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire in 1911, which is the basis for The Fire Still Burns. Research, scripts, production notes, posters, and recordings from other dance performances are also included, many from productions with which Giffin was involved. Most of the materials are in English, with some materials in German, French, and one undetermined language.  Biographical Note

As of 2020, John Giffin is an Emeritus Professor at the Ohio State University’s (OSU) Department of Dance who taught composition, notation, repertory, and ballet technique. He choreographed works for the Cleveland Performance Art Festival and the OSU Wexner Center for the Arts, and also created The Fire Still Burns with the OSU Department of Theatre. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Juilliard School of Music and a Master of Arts in Dance from OSU. Giffin danced for the Les Grands Ballets Canadians and served as the dance captain for Brigadoon’s Broadway revival.

 Scope and Contents

The John Giffin Papers contains photocopies of transcripts, interviews, photographs, news media, sheet music, plays, and short stories related to the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire of 1911. It also includes newspaper and magazine articles, newsletters, and photographs related to the Lizzie Borden axe murders. Lyrics, song lists, scripts, articles, and other research related to cabarets in Weimar, Germany are also included. There are also detailed production notes, scripts, performance programs, publicity, compact discs, and audiocassettes related to The Fire Still Burns, a 2003 Ohio State University (OSU) theater production directed by John Giffin, and Kabarett, a 2008 OSU theatre production also directed by Giffin. Posters for various dance performances are also included, some for productions with which Giffin was involved. Materials date 1964-2000s, with the bulk of materials dated 1990s-2008. Most of the materials are in English, with some materials in German, French, and one undetermined language.
