Donald Smith Collection on Theatre History is comprised of late 19th through 21st century theatre production materials, particularly those related to Gilbert &amp; Sullivan operas, including illustrated sheet music, and caricatures of people who had connections to the theatre. Also included are programs, postcards, cabinet cards, handbills, images of actors, and lobby cards. Materials date from 1864 to 2025.</abstract>

            <p>As of 2025, J. Donald Smith is a retired Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. He is also a well-known Gilbert and Sullivan and theatre collector. Smith served as President of the New England Gilbert and Sullivan Society for nine years. His collecting interests focus on late 19th and early 20th century theatre.</p>

            <p>The J. Donald Smith Collection on Theatre History contains late 19th through early 21st century theatre production materials and illustrations of people who were connected to theatre, especially focusing on materials related to the operas of Gilbert &amp; Sullivan. The collection is comprised of illustrated sheet music, programs, production posters, cabinet cards, lobby cards, caricatures published in
