            <abstract id="ref36" label="Abstract">Firman "Bo" Hewitt Brown Jr. was a chairman and professor in the Department of Theatre at Ohio State University. He helped the university gain accreditation for their theatre program after he arrived in 1981. The Firman H. Brown Papers, dated 1977-circa 1995, contain scripts (many written by Don Nigro), reports and correspondence that relate to the Ohio State University's theatre productions that Brown directed. The collection also contains correspondence and reports related to his membership in professional organizations such as the University/Resident Theatre Association.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Firman "Bo" Hewitt Brown Jr. (1926-2019) was a chairman and professor in the Department of Theatre at Ohio State University and at the University of Montana. In 1957, he became chairman of the University of Montana's drama faculty. Between 1960-1967, Brown and his wife Margery ran and directed the Bigfork Summer Playhouse in Montana and in 1967, created the Montana Repertory Theatre Company. In 1981, Brown came to Ohio State University and helped the university gain accreditation for its theatre program. Brown was the president of the University/Resident Theater Association from 1987-1990, and a member of the National Theatre Conference.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Firman H. Brown Papers, dated 1977- circa 1995, contains scripts, reports, minutes, a rehearsal schedule, cast lists, blueprints, staging information and financial statements. The collection also contains Brown's correspondence relating to the Ohio State University theatre productions he directed, and also to his membership in professional organizations such as the University/Resident Theatre Association. Many of the scripts in this collection were written by playwright Don Nigro. Both 
                <emph render="italic">Mariner</emph> and 
                <emph render="italic">The Dark Sonnets of the Lady</emph> were commissioned by Brown and the Ohio State University Department of Theatre.</p>
