Golding was active in theatre throughout his life as an actor, director, and teacher. He worked in the Speech Department at The City College of New York, the English Department at Danbury State College, the Department of Theatre at University of South Florida, and then joined the Ohio State University Department of Theatre faculty in 1973, where he was a professor and later director of the Theatre Research Institute. The Alfred S. Golding Papers contain notes, manuscript photocopies, journal article photocopies, and photocopies of book pages, all dealing with various subjects in drama. The photocopied pages are in German, French, Italian, English, and Latin (primarily non-English). The collection also includes microfilm, color film strips, and color slides.  Biographical Note

Dr. Alfred S. Golding (1924-2014) attended The City College of New York (BA, 1946), Yale University (MA, 1949), and Columbia University (PhD, 1962), and was active in theatre throughout his life as an actor, director, and teacher. He worked as a tutor and lecturer in the Speech Department at The City College of New York, was a professor in the English Department at Danbury State College, Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre at University of South Florida, and then joined the Ohio State University Department of Theatre faculty in 1973, where he was a professor and later director of the Theatre Research Institute. Dr. Golding authored journal articles and translated several works on acting as well as plays themselves.

 Scope and Contents

The Alfred S. Golding Papers contain notes, manuscript photocopies, journal article photocopies, and photocopies of book pages, all dealing with various subjects in drama. The photocopied pages are in German, French, Italian, English, and Latin. The collection also includes microfilm, color film strips, and color slides. The collection materials are dated 1965 and circa 1970s-1993.
