            <abstract id="ref1" label="Abstract">As of 2019, Alan Brody is an American playwright, author, and Professor of Theatre Emeritus from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who taught classes in playwriting, script analysis, and acting. The Alan Brody Papers include a copy of Alan Brody's curriculum vitae and typescripts of six of his plays, dated circa 1984-1998. Play typescripts include 
                <emph render="italic">Five Scenes From Life</emph>, 
                <emph render="italic">Invention for Fathers and Sons</emph>, 
                <emph render="italic">The Housewives of Mannheim</emph>, 
                <emph render="italic">Greytop in Love</emph>, 
                <emph render="italic">The Company of Angels</emph>, and 
                <emph render="italic">Medea's Nurse</emph>. The collection also includes a brick from the back wall of the Curtain Players Theatre, dated 1838, that was presented to Brody by the Theatre.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>As of 2019, Alan Brody (1937-) is an American playwright and Professor of Theatre Emeritus from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who taught classes in playwriting, script analysis, and acting. He also served as the Associate Provost for the Arts, and has written several award-winning plays, including 
                <emph render="italic">Invention for Fathers and Sons</emph>, 
                <emph render="italic">The Company of Angels</emph>, (Eisner Award, Streisand Center for Jewish Cultural Arts, 1990) and 
                <emph render="italic">The Housewives of Mannheim</emph>. He has also written three novels: 
                <emph render="italic">Coming To</emph> in 1973, 
                <emph render="italic">Hey Lenny, Hey Jack</emph> in 1975, and the self-published work 
                <emph render="italic">I Want to Be There When It Happens: A Novel of the Sixties</emph>. A nonfiction book, 
                <emph render="italic">The English Mummers and Their Plays: Traces of Ancient Mystery</emph>, was also written by Brody in 1969.</p>
