Also included are programs for performances and conferences attended by Intravaia, clippings and publications on the history of dance, photographs of workshops and performances, two personal photograph albums, and audiovisual recordings related to dance notation and Intravaia's teaching.  Biographical Note

Toni' Intravaia (1948-2018) was a dancer, dance notator, and educator who taught dance to adults and children at workshops, festivals, and in university and community dance programs. She received a Bachelor of Arts from West Virginia University, a Master of Science in dance from the University of Wisconsin, and her Doctor of Musical Arts in dance from New York University. Intravaia owned the Creative Dance Workshop for children, a program she implemented in West Virginia, New Jersey, and Illinois. She also ran the Children's Repertory Dance Company in Carbondale, Illinois, a program that visited schools to teach children about dance. Additionally, Intravaia taught dance notation, and did copy work for the Dance Notation Bureau in New York. She was a founding member of the Sacred Dance Guild (SDG), a non-profit organization that advocates for dance as a means to promote spiritual growth and the integration of mind, body, and spirit through dance programs and education.

 Scope and Contents

The Toni' Intravaia Papers on Dance Notation contain notes, research, publications, workbooks, handouts, worksheets, correspondence, photographs, lesson plans and other teaching materials related to dance notation that were used by Toni' Intravaia in her teaching of labanotation, as well as some materials that she used for her own education. Also included are programs for dance performances and conferences attended by Intravaia, clippings and publications on the history of dance used by Intravaia in her choreography and teaching, photographs of workshops and performances by Intravaia, two personal photograph albums, a film on spider notation, a sound recording used in Intravaia's "Shakers" dance project, and a compact disc of Intravaia's robotics notation from the 2016 annual Southern Illinois University Arts Education Festival. Materials are dated from 1941-2016, with the bulk of materials dated between 1950 and 1979.

 Scope and Contents

Accession No. TRI.2020.0008 contains printed pages of "robot notation" and a compact disc of Intravaia's robotics notation from the 2016 annual Southern Illinois University Arts Education Festival. Also included are black and white photographs of an unknown staged production from a 1965 clinic hosted by Nora Mundy, some of these photographs have annotations identifying individuals on the verso, but Intravaia's involvement in this clinic is unknown. Workbooks, handouts, worksheets, and notes on labanotation used by Intravaia in her teaching activities, as well as her own education, are included in this accession as well. Materials are dated 1959-1967, 2016.
