            <abstract id="ref16" label="Abstract">The Muriel Emerling Papers contains correspondence between Muriel Emerling and Jerome Lawrence regarding the introductions that Lawrence wrote for the Patrick Henry Intermediate School’s literary publication “Images: A Literary Journal," as well as several issues of the journal. Many items in the collection are photocopies and not originals. Muriel Emerling was a teacher at the Patrick Henry Intermediate School in Cleveland, Ohio during the 1980s and 1990s. Jerome Lawrence (1915-2004) was part of a playwriting duo with Robert E. Lee and he attended the Partick Henry Middle School in the late 1920s.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Muriel Emerling was a teacher at the Patrick Henry Intermediate School in Cleveland, Ohio during the 1980s and 1990s. Jerome Lawrence (1915-2004) was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio where he attended the Partick Henry Middle School in the late 1920s. He was part of a playwriting duo with Robert E. Lee, and their partnership spanned over 50 years and included “Auntie Mame," which later they adapted into the musical “Mame," and “Inherit the Wind.”</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Muriel Emerling Papers, dated circa 1980s-1991, contains correspondence between Muriel Emerling and Jerome Lawrence regarding the introductions that Lawrence wrote for the Patrick Henry Intermediate School’s literary publication “Images: A Literary Journal," as well as several issues of the journal. The collection also includes articles about Lawrence, a photograph from Lawrence’s visit to the Patrick Henry Junior High School, program from “Mame," the brochure "The Lawrence and Lee Theatre Research Institute: Unlocking the Treasures of the Stage," and Jerome Lawrence’s middle school report card. Many items in the collection, including the report card, are photocopies and not originals.</p>
