            <head>Historical Note</head>
            <p>"In Abraham's Bosom" was written by Paul Green, premiered on Broadway at the Provincetown Playhouse on December 30, 1926, and closed after 200 performances on June 18, 1927. Green received the 1927 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for this play. "In Abraham's Bosom" is a story about a black man in segregated, Jim Crow ruled, North Carolina around the turn of the 20th century. Abraham McCranie is the son of a slave called Caroline and plantation owner Colonel Mack McCranie. Abraham wants to start a school to educate black children. He is chased all over the state, and eventually opens the school, but white people run him out of it and drive him to murder.</p>
