The Gerald Weales Papers, dated 1973-1995, contains correspondence, membership lists and newsletters, with the majority of the materials relating to Weales' position as a critic and his membership within the American Theater Critics Association (ATCA), which he joined in 1974. In an essay about the ATCA annual meeting in The Berkshires' region of Massachusetts in 1990, Weales combined his role of a critic and organization member by critiquing the theatre performances chosen for the meeting. Biographical Note

Gerald Weales (1925-2013) was a theater critic and author who wrote the "American Theater Watch", an annual column reviewing the year's plays for the Georgia Review from 1978-2010. He also wrote theater reviews for the Commonweal and Drama Survey, the latter of which he won the George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism in 1966. He also published scholarly editions of some classic plays like "Death of a Salesman." He became a member of the American Theatre Critics Association (ATCA) in 1974, the year that it was established.

The Gerald Weales Papers, dated 1973-1995, contains correspondence, membership lists, newsletters, a playbill, and an essay draft with the majority of the materials relating to Weales' position as a critic and his membership within the American Theater Critics Association (ATCA).
