                <emph render="italic">The Journal-News</emph> featuring a story on the honorary doctorate, a note sent from County Clerk Joseph R. Holland, and a letter sent to Davenport from the director of public relations at the Parsons School of Design with two photographs of the honorary doctorate ceremony. The collection materials are dated 1981.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Millia Davenport (1895-1992) was an American costumer and theater designer from New York City. She was the author of "The Book of Costume," which was published in 1948. Davenport studied at the Parsons School of Design from 1917-1918. She received an honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts from the Parsons School of Design in 1981.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Millia Davenport Papers contain a citation and greeting, framed in diploma folders, for an honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts awarded to Davenport on May 26, 1981. The collection also contains a copy of the 
                <emph render="italic">The Journal-News</emph> People section from July 9th, 1981, which features a story on the honorary doctorate titled, "Designing Woman Honored," and a note sent from County Clerk Joseph R. Holland which contains the same article clipping in it. The collection also has a letter sent to Davenport from Eve Mayer, director of public relations at the Parsons School of Design, with two accompanying photographs of the honorary doctorate ceremony, dated June 10, 1981.</p>
