Fringe festivals focus on performing arts and bring attention to theater, dance, puppetry, music, visual arts, and spoken word. These festivals do not have a single genre focus and show uncensored original material. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Minnesota Fringe Festival are open access performing arts festivals where anyone can perform anything. The San Francisco Fringe Theatre Festival is similar except performances are chosen by a lottery.
