 Historical Note

As of 2017, the Ohio State University, Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) conducts research on the use and integration of emerging arts technologies in animation and interactive media, and collaborates with a range of campus disciplines.

The Department of Theatre at Ohio State University was established in 1951, and as of 2017, remains an active body on Ohio State’s campus. The Deparment educates and trains theatre artists, scholars, and teachers; conducts research and creative projects that contribute to the enrichment of the university and field of theatre at large; and offers the community opportunities for theatre education and production.

Marcel Marceau (1923-2007) was a French actor and mime, active from 1946 until his death in 2007. He held an honorary doctorate from the Ohio State University, and visited the campus in 1995, 1998 and 2001 to hold workshops, seminars and residency programs. During Marceau's residency in 2001, he participated in the motion capture session with ACCAD.

 Scope and Contents

Recordings and Suit from the Ohio State University, Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design Motion Capture Project with Marcel Marceau contains VHS videocassettes and compact discs with recordings from Marceau's motion capture session during his 2001 residency at Ohio State University. He performed his conventions characters, several illusions, and a full-length performance called "The Eater of Hearts". Also included is the motion capture suit Marceau wore during the session.
