Private theaters in France were popular in the 19th century among the elite. Important authors and musicians were invited to give performances in these theaters. The Château d'Osmond had 228 seats and is one of the more elaborate private theaters designed. The château is located in Normandy, France and was constructed in the 18th century, and still stands today as a center of Tibetian buddist Vajradhara-Ling. The Marquis d'Osmond (1828-1981) was an author and patron of the arts, as well as a member of the Circle of the Artistic Union. Edmond Radet (1843-1911) was a student of Blaise Carol at l'école de Beaux-arts.
