            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Collection on Censorship in the Performing Arts contains the lyrics to "Snow" from "White Christmas" as well as correspondence from the Motion Picture Association regarding its status on censorship as well as a compact disc of a 1954 recording of "Snow." Also included is a signed theatrical legislation by Lord Chamberlain regarding "Touch Not the Queen" An Opera in Three Acts and a letter from Arthur Bigge written on behalf of Queen Victoria denying the request to let the Oberammergau Passion Play be produced in one of the London theatres. Also contained in the collection is a police directive ordering that large fees will be given on travelling theatre companies who set up in the city of Rouen effective October 9, 1811. In addition, this collection contains the pamphlet entitled "Acts and Laws, Made and passed in and by the General Court or Assembly of the State of Connecticut, in America, holden at Hartford, (in said State) on the Second Thursday of May, A.D. 1800." This pamphlet contains "An Act to prevent Theatrical Shows and Exhibions" from being performed in the State of Connecticut.</p>

                    <p>Accession No. TRI.2023.0014 contains a pamphlet of all of the acts and laws passed in the Connecticut General Assembly on May 15, 1800. Included in this pamphlet is "An Act to Prevent Theatrical Shows and Exhibitions," which assigns a penalty of fifty dollars to whoever violates the act and exhibits any "Tragedies, Comedies, Farces, or other Dramatic Pieces or compositions,... on any Public Theatre, or elsewhere in this State."</p>
