 Historical Note

By the late 19th century, theatres began transitioning from using gas lights to electric lights. Lights that theatres could use for their productions now included equipment such as arc lamps, spotlights, lenses, and dimmers. Theatrical lighting and equipment companies distributed various brochures, catalogs, bulletins, price lists, and advertisements for the various and continually updated equipment they sold.

 Scope and Contents

The Rick R. Zimmerman Collection of Theatrical Stage Lighting Equipment contains lighting equipment such as a 5 inch New York Calcium Light Co. PC spotlight, a Ward Leonard spotlight dimmer, a 10’-0” adapter cable, a New York Calcium Light Company Projected Effect Device, and a New York Calcium Light Company Manual Feed Carbon Arc PC Spot.
