 Biographical Note

Caroline Welton Van Ausdal (1947-2009) was an Ohio playwright based in Yellow Springs. Van Ausdal graduated from Miami University with a degree in Music Composition in 1969. Throughout her life, she worked primarily as a teacher in a variety of settings related to the arts as well as writing and directing her own musicals. At the time of her death, her name was Carolion, which she had legally changed during a spiritual journey.

 Scope and Contents

The Carolion (Caroline Van Ausdal) Papers, dating 1980-1993, contain correspondence, photographs, writings, and plays by Carolion. Much of the materials in this collection relate to Chickalena and the End of the World, a musical by Carolion which was staged in various theaters throughout Ohio in the late 1980s.
