            <abstract id="ref2" label="Abstract">Edward Hyland Scovill was born on April 3, 1897 to Edward Tracy Scovill and Florence Scholas of Cleveland, Ohio. The Edward Hyland Scovill Baby Book contains one book filled with handwritten pages, ephemera, baptism records, family history, and photography; the majority of which covers the social life of Edward, including events with his parents such as concerts, church programs, travel, and holidays spent in Cleveland and elsewhere. Some of these events also mention Edward's siblings and other relatives. Material is dated 1897-1918.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Edward Hyland Scovill was born on April 3, 1897 to Edward Tracy Scovill and Florence Scholas of Cleveland, Ohio. Edward Tracy was a civil engineer by trade, helping build roads for the Northern Pacific, Southern Pacific and Canadian Pacific Railroad on the West Coast of the United States. The family consisted of four children; Edward Hyland, Harriet, Stuart, and Jay. Edward Hyland later attended private high school at the Asheville School in Asheville, North Carolina, and continued his education at the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale University.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Edward Hyland Scovill Baby Book contains one book filled with handwritten pages, ephemera, baptism records, family history, and photographs documenting the infancy of Edward Hyland Scovill of Cleveland, Ohio. The majority of the book covers the social life of Edward, including events with his parents such as concerts, church programs, travel, and holidays spent in Cleveland and elsewhere. Some of these events also mention Edward's siblings and other relatives. Other milestones recorded in the book are Edward's first steps and his attempts at writing print and cursive. The book also features illustrations from artist Frances Brundage. The book is dated 1897-1918.</p>
