The zines incorporate local sketches and art by Brooklyn, New York artists, and include short stories, writings, and interviews about topics including feminism in the United States, prison abolition and how it correlates with the history of colonialism within the United States, and music from Black artists.</abstract>

            <p>Joel Chaffee is the founder of an artist collective known as Charity Case, and the editor and self-publisher of a zine called 
                <emph render="italic">Handout</emph> that began in 2008; the most recent issue of 
                <emph render="italic">Handout</emph> was published in 2022. 
                <emph render="italic">Handout</emph> zine was distributed in the New York City area. As of 2025, Chaffee continues to distribute zines, newsletters, and published interviews for free to organizations via the 
                <emph render="italic">Handout</emph> website .</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The 
                <emph render="italic">Handout</emph> Zine contains issue #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6. These zines were created between 2008 December – 2013 November by Joel Chaffee, and the content focuses on events and individuals during this timeframe. These issues feature sketches and art predominantly by Brooklyn, New York artists. The issues focus on feminism in the United States, prison abolition and how it correlates with the history of colonialism within the United States, and music from Black artists, through interviews, nonfiction, and short stories.</p>
