            <abstract id="ref13" label="Abstract">Earl McCoy graduated from Ohio State University in 1912. He was a student in the university's civil engineering program, with a focus on railroad construction. Civil engineering deals with the design of both physical and naturally made environments. The Earl McCoy Field Notebook and Land Surveying Exam Created as a Student in Civil Engineering Courses at Ohio State University collection contains one field notebook containing notes written by Earl McCoy while he was a student studying engineering at Ohio State University. A final examination taken by McCoy for a civil engineering course is also included in the collection.</abstract>

            <p>Earl McCoy graduated from Ohio State University in 1912. He was a student in the university's civil engineering program, with a focus on railroad construction. He was also a member of the Sigma Nu social fraternity.</p>
            <p>Civil engineering focuses on the design and construction of both physical and natural environments. Public works such as bridges, roads, and canals are areas that are maintained with the aid of engineers. The study of civil engineering combines mathmatics, physics, and natual sciences such as geology and hydrology.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Earl McCoy Field Notebook and Land Surveying Exam Created as a Student in Civil Engineering Courses at Ohio State University collection contains one field notebook containing notes written by Earl McCoy while he was a student studying engineering at Ohio State University. Writings in the notebook cover surveys of the campus, noteable buildings, and other landmarks. A final examination taken by McCoy for a civil engineering course is also included in the collection. The exam is dated December 18, 1909 and the notebook is dated from September 23, 1909 to October 12, 1910.</p>
