The remembrance album was owned by Emilie (Amelia) Mary Ganter and consists of entries – poetry, love poems, and well wishes – handwritten in English and German by friends, admirers, and possibly family members living throughout the Southern United States between 1861 through 1867. The cabinet card depicts a girl – possibly Emilie (Amelia) Mary Ganter – taken in approximately the 1860s by Pelot and Cole’s Photographic Gallery in Augusta, Georgia. Emilie (Amelia) Mary Ganter lived in Augusta, Georgia from approximately 1861 to 1867, during and after the American Civil War.</abstract>

            <p>Emilie (Amelia) Mary Ganter lived in Augusta, Georgia from approximately 1861 to 1867, during and after the American Civil War. Ganter had friends and family living throughout the Southern United States, including such locations as Augusta, Georgia, Charleston, South Carolina, Bedford County, Virginia, Atlanta, Georgia, and Canton, Georgia. Ganter understood and could read English and German.</p>

            <p>The Emilie (Amelia) Mary Ganter Remembrance Album comprises of a remembrance album with a cabinet card laid in the front of the album. The remembrance album was owned by Emilie (Amelia) Mary Ganter and consists of entries – poetry, love poems, and well wishes – handwritten in English and German by friends, admirers, and possibly family members living throughout the Southern United States, including such locations as Augusta, Georgia, Charleston, South Carolina, Bedford County, Virginia, Atlanta, Georgia, and Canton, Georgia. Entries that are dated were created between 1861 through 1867. Some of the entries are signed by their writers; signatures include those of John Wiegand, John Engel, Eugenia E. Veulquez, Mary Vernon, Sudie Galt, Willie Hamilton, C.W. Wieking, Amelia A. Bedlick, William B. Volger, and Amilia E. Kontz. The cabinet card depicts a girl – possibly Emilie (Amelia) Mary Ganter – taken in approximately the 1860s by Pelot and Cole’s Photographic Gallery in Augusta, Georgia.</p>
