            <head>Historical Note</head>
<p>Sonic Youth was an alternative rock band that formed in New York City in 1981. The founding members of the band were Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, and Lee Ranaldo. Sonic Youth was known for its experimental take on rock music, often using unorthodox guitar tunings and altering instruments to make them produce unique sounds. The band is considered one of the earliest and most prominent noise rock bands and an influence on the indie rock movement. Sonic Youth split up in 2011.</p>
<p>The Sonic Youth official fan club published seven issues of its fanzine,
<emph render="italic">Sonic Death</emph>, from approximately 1991 until 1995. The zine featured fan mail, articles and reviews written by band members, art, and advertisements for merchandise relating to the band.</p>
