            <abstract id="ref1" label="Abstract">Jack Saunders (1939-2018) was a self-styled writer who wrote unpublished autobiographical accounts of his life, including several books and a series of broadsides called the Buzzard Cult. The Jack Saunders Papers include a pamphlet of praise and criticism for two of Jack Saunders’ unpublished novels, titled 
                <emph render="italic">Open Book</emph> and 
                <emph render="italic">Evil Genius</emph>, a catalogue from 1985 for Buzzard Cult memorabilia, 8 self-published Buzzard Cult papers, and letters to local politicians concerning funding for the arts.</abstract>

            <p>Jack Saunders (1939-2018) was a self-styled writer who wrote unpublished autobiographical accounts of his life, including several books and a series of publications called the Buzzard Cult.</p>
            <p>The Buzzard Cult, or the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex is used to describe a particular style of mythology, artifacts, and ceremonies from the Mississippian culture that existed in what is now the United States of America from 1200-1650.</p>

            <p>The Jack Saunders Papers contain 8 self-published "Buzzard Cult" publications, including a pamphlet of praise and criticism for two of Saunders’ unpublished novels, 
                <emph render="italic">Open Book</emph> and 
                <emph render="italic">Evil Genius</emph>, a catalog from 1985 for Buzzard Cult memorabilia, a paper titled "Injudicious Publication" outlining Saunder's credentials and history of his publication efforts, and letters to local politicians concerning funding for the arts, one of which is dated 1986. The collection is dated circa 1980s-1990s.</p>
