Pauline Cassin Caro (1835-1901) was a French novelist and wife of French philosopher, Elme-Marie Caro. She published anonymously until approximately 1892. Caro published the novel "Le Péché de Madeleine" ("The Sin of Madeleine" or "The Crime of Madeleine") in 1864.
Robert Morgan Denig (1813-1897) was a physician from Columbus, Ohio, and a professor of medicine at Starling Medical College and the Columbus Medical College. Denig translated Caro's novel into English in 1892.
The Robert Morgan Denig Translation of Pauline Cassin Caro’s "Le Péché de Madeleine” includes one handwritten manuscript of Denig's translation, written in August 1892. The 208-page manuscript is written in ink on lined paper, and has been rebound. The front matter includes handwritten notes indicating the name, occupation, and birth and death dates of the translator, as well as the date it was translated. The front matter notes also indicate the title and date of the original novel, and birth and death dates for the original author, Pauline Cassin Caro.
