Alice Kay was a junior student attending Leeds City Training College in 1914. Leeds City Training College was a teacher training college located in West Yorkshire, England. In 1968, the college merged with the Carnegie College of Physical Education and was renamed the City of Leeds and Carnegie College.
The Alice Kay Sketchbook for Courses at Leeds City Training College contains various sketches in pencil, pen, and watercolor. The majority of sketches are studies of plants and still life objects, but some sketches of architectural elements, landscapes, people, and animals are also included. Many of the sketches are dated, and were done between 1913 and 1915. Some of the works were done on other paper and pasted into this sketchbook. The sketchbook also included several loose newspaper clippings about 19th century author Charlotte Brontë, dated 1942-1944, and 1966. These clippings were separated from the sketchbook for storage, due to size and fragility.
