            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Sarah Eleanora Toombs attended Northwestern University for her bachelor's degree in theatre, film, and English. She attended the University of the Incarnate Word for her master's degree in English, and the University of Notre Dame for her doctoral degree in English language and literature, where she graduated in 1986. She wrote her doctoral thesis on James Thurber which was entitled "James Thurber: A Research Guide." Toombs also wrote a bibliography on Thurber, published in 1987, entitled "James Thurber, an annotated bibliography of criticism."</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>Sarah Eleanora Toombs Research on Library Holdings of James Thurber's Publications contains a collection of correspondence from libraries located in several countries around the world responding to Toombs' requests for records of their bibliographic holdings on James Thurber. Also included are the catalog records that the libraries sent. Parts of the letters are responses to Toombs in English, but the majority of the letters contain bibliographic information in languages other than English, including Spanish, Danish, French, Czech, Arabic, Japanese, and German. These materials may have been generated as part of Toombs' research for her doctoral thesis, or her bibliography published in 1987. The collection is dated 1985.</p>
