Biographical Note

Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837) was a Russian novelist, poet, journalist, and playwright of the Romantic era. Born into Russian nobility in Moscow, Pushkin was recognized for his written work at a young age. He was active in promoting social reform and clashed with the government at various points throughout his life, which included time spent in exile. Pushkin is often credited with laying the foundation for modern styles of Russian literature. While not known as an artist, Pushkin created sketches as a hobby.
