During WWII propaganda leaflets dropped from aircraft were utilized by both Allied and Axis powers to warn civilians away from potential areas of aerial bombardment. With the goal of crippling the German war economy, the Allies were planning air warfare campaigns on industrial centers in Germany during 1944.

Scope and Contents

The "Churchills neue Warnung" Leaflet is a 1944 German language leaflet printed by the Allied forces during World War II in order to warn the German population of future aerial campaigns on the German homefront. The leaflet includes quotes from then British Prime Minister Winston Churchill about future aerial bombardment, and directly calls for civilians to evacuate areas that might become targets. Although the two-sided flyer mostly consists of text and quotes from Winston Churchill between 1941 and 1944, there is also a graphic representing the increased size of Allied bomb capabilities as the war progressed. The leaflet serves as a warning for German civilians living in these areas, telling them, "You have been warned."
