The Japanese Naval Drawings and Notebooks contain flat drawings, scrolls, and notebooks possibly created by students in Japanese naval academies. Two items in the collection are dated 1864 and 1865. The other materials appear to be from the early period of naval academy studies in Japan, circa 1855-1897.

Scope and Contents
The Japanese Naval Drawings and Notebooks contain flat drawings, scrolls, and notebooks possibly created by students in Japanese naval academies such as the Kobe Naval Training Center or the Nagasaki Naval Training Center. The drawings and illustrations are of military technologies, including fortifications, cannon, rifles, and knots. Some items bear the surname Kitō or Kidō of Satsuma Domain. Two items in the collection are dated 1864 and 1865. The other materials appear to be from the early period of naval academy studies in Japan, circa 1855-1897.
