            <abstract id="ref31" label="Abstract">Bernard Higley was a farmer from Rutland, Ohio. He served in the Field Hospital for the 37th Division of the 112th Sanitary Train and was stationed at Camp Sheridan in Alabama and Camp Upton in New York before he was sent to France in April 1918. The collection contains letters Higley received during and around his time serving in the Army during World War I, between 1914 and 1921, from his immediate and extended family, friends, neighbors and community members. Some of these include newspaper clippings from Rutland, Ohio. Several pins and buttons from his uniform are also included.</abstract>

            <p>Bernard Higley (1893-1979) was a farmer from Rutland, Ohio. He registered for the draft in June 1917 and was assigned to the Field Hospital for the 37th Division of the 112th Sanitary Train. Higley was stationed at Camp Sheridan in Alabama and Camp Upton in New York before he was sent to France in April 1918.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>Bernard Higley Correspondence and Clippings contains letters Higley received during and around his time serving in the Army during World War I. The collection spans from 1914-1921, but the majority of correspondence is dated from 1918 while he was stationed in New York and France. The letters are from his immediate and extended family, friends, neighbors and community members. Also included is a wooden box that Higley used to send correspondence to his father, pins from his uniform, blank postcards with images of France, and newspaper clippings sent to him from his correspondents about Rutland, Ohio.</p>
