            <abstract id="ref1" label="Abstract">The Garfield Club was a social organization operating in Columbus, Ohio, as early as 1896. It focused on literature, art, and science. The Garfield Club Records contain a book labeled as a secretary's report, which contains minutes, the club’s constitution, lists of members and attendance logs. The records also contain a formal, typed copy of the club's constitution, a list of honorary members, three roll call sheets, and correspondence related to membership. The collection dates from circa 1890s-1900s.</abstract>

            <p>The Garfield Club was a social organization operating in Columbus, Ohio, as early as 1896. It focused on literature, art, and science. The club was limited to 30 members, with 15 men and 15 women each, with women being exempt from dues. The club met biweekly and had regular elections of a president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer every year.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Garfield Club Records contain a book labeled as a secretary's report, which contains minutes kept from October 9, 1896, to May 18, 1900, detailing activities, outings, member absences, and elections. The articles of the club’s constitution are written out in the front of the book, with lists of members and attendance logs in the back of the book kept from 1896-1901. The records also contain a formal, typed copy of the club's constitution, a list of honorary members, three roll call sheets, a letter of resignation from Secretary J. Williams, and a letter from a William S. Cook turning down an invitation from the secretary to become a member. The collection dates from circa 1890s-1900s.</p>
