            <abstract id="ref28" label="Abstract">Sylvia Westerman (1933-1995) was a businesswoman and media executive from Columbus, Ohio. She worked as the Vice President of the National Broadcasting Company, the Columbia Broadcasting Company, and United Press International during the 1960s-1980s. She was involved with the news coverage of the Watergate Affair, and in 1974, won an Emmy for her production of 
                <emph render="italic">The Watergate Tapes</emph> for CBS News. The Sylvia Westerman Papers contain Syliva Westerman's copies of Watergate senate hearings, particularly involving the testimonies and exhibits from former White House Counsel John Dean and Senate Resolution 60. Other papers include Westerman’s personal notes on the chronology of the Watergate hearings, Watergate contacts, sketches of the hearing’s participants, and other notes kept on Watergate by Westerman. The collection also contains two publications produced by the Columbus Broadcasting System, Inc. in 1963 and 1964. Collection materials are dated 1963-circa 1974.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Sylvia Westerman (1933-1995) was a businesswoman, media executive, and theatre enthusiast from Columbus, Ohio, and one of the first women to serve as senior management in network television news. She worked as the Vice President of the National Broadcasting Company, the Columbia Broadcasting Company, and United Press International during the 1960s-1980s. News coverage and productions she was involved with included the Olympics, 
                <emph render="italic">Face the Nation</emph>, and the impeachment and Senate hearings on Richard Nixon’s Watergate scandal. In 1974, she won an Emmy for her production of 
                <emph render="italic">The Watergate Tapes</emph> for CBS News.</p>
            <p>United States Senate Resolution 60 established a Senate committee in 1973 to investigate the Watergate break-in as well as other illegal activities that may have occurred during the presidential election of 1972. Former White House Counsel John Dean III testified in committee hearings that the current United States President, Richard Nixon, had approved a cover-up of the break-in.</p>
