Reproductions of Drafts and Notes for Novels and Short Stories Written by Jack Vance contains photocopies of original manuscripts, outlines, and notes for two published novels, three unpublished novels, and two short stories written by Vance between 1954 and 1976, and photocopied in 1978 and 1979.

Materials in this collection were separated from the Bill Blackbeard Collection, donated to the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum in 1996.

Biographical Note
John Holbrook "Jack" Vance (1916-2013) was an American mystery, fantasy, and science fiction writer. He primarily published under the name Jack Vance, but also published some work under his full name, and several pseudonyms. Vance graduated from the University of California in Berkeley in 1942. He was awarded three Hugo awards, a Nebula and a World Fantasy award for lifetime achievement. In 1997, Vance was made a Grand Master of Science Fiction by the Science Fiction Writers of America.

Reproductions of Drafts and Notes for Novels and Short Stories Written by Jack Vance contains photocopies of original manuscripts, outlines, and notes for two published novels, two unpublished novels, and two short stories written by Jack Vance. The collection includes materials for
The Dark Ocean, a novel published in 1985, and originally written circa 1960;
Strange People, Queer Notions, a novel originally written circa 1955, and published in 1957;
Wild Thyme and Violets an unpublished novel written in 1976;
The Stark, an unpublished novel written in 1954;
The Genesee Slough Murders, an unpublished novel written circa 1966; and two unpublished, undated short stories, "Fat Hannah" and "End of the Moon-Chase." The photocopies were created in 1978 and 1979.

The Dark Ocean is a mystery novel published in 1985, and originally written circa 1960.
Strange People, Queer Notions is also a mystery novel, originally written circa 1955, and published in 1957 under his full name, John Holbrook Vance. The photocopy of
Strange People, Queer Notions is missing the first page. Photocopies of the manuscripts were created in 1978.

Scope and Contents
Unpublished Novels and Short Stories includes photocopies of outlines, handwritten notes and typescript drafts for three unpublished novels and two unpublished short stories. It is not known when the two short stories, "Fat Hannah" and "End of the Moon-Chase" were written. Vance uses a pseudonym, "Jan Dublays," for "End of the Moon-Chase".
Wild Thyme and Violets is a proposed novel, written in 1976.
The Stark is a proposed science fiction novel, written in 1954.
The Genesee Slough Murders is a proposed mystery novel, written circa 1966. The outlines and drafts of these novels were published in a collection of Vance's unpublished and unfinished works in 2005,
Wild Thyme and Violets and Other Unpublished Works. The photocopies were created in 1979.
