Born in Garrettsville, Ohio, he moved to New York as a teenager and began to write poetry about the city of New York. Hart Crane died in 1932 when he committed suicide in Mexico. He was survived by his mother, Grace. The Grace Crane Collection of Automatic Writing Attributed to Hart Crane contains notes written by a psychic medium, purported to be the words of Hart Crane spoken to his mother, his cousin Betty, and others, after his death. The notes include poetry and personal messages from June 1940 to May 1942.
