Margaret Honton was a graduate student at the Ohio State University from 1973-1975, where she was a founding member of the Women’s Poetry Workshop. She published multiple books featuring her own poetry and was an editor of select poetry anthologies. The Margaret Honton Papers contain materials pertaining to Honton’s poetry, the Women’s Poetry Workshop at Ohio State University, poetry anthologies that Honton edited, and personal memoirs and family histories. Included in this collection are poetry chapbooks, correspondence, poem drafts and typescripts, promotional materials for events and book publications, photographs, clippings, and personal stories. The collection is dated from the 1970s to 2020, with the bulk of materials dated from 1974-1988.

Biographical Note
Margaret Honton was a graduate student in English at the Ohio State University from 1973-1975. Her master's thesis, “To Make Up a Year and a Sphere,” was the first poetry thesis accepted by the university. Honton was one of the founding members of the Women’s Poetry Workshop at Ohio State University, which began in 1975, and she remained an active member and contributor for many years after she graduated. In addition to her work with the Women's Poetry Workshop, Honton also wrote and published her own poems, and edited several poetry anthologies. As of 2020, Honton is retired and writing her memoirs.
Scope and Contents
The Margaret Honton Papers contain materials related to the Women's Poetry Workshop at Ohio State University, as well as other poetry workshops and groups, including poems, correspondence, articles, event ephemera, a scrapbook, and photographs of members and events. Also included are poetry chapbooks and compilations written by Margaret Honton and other poets, as well as poem drafts and typescripts, correspondence, paste-ups, and other design materials for anthologies Honton edited. The collection also contains materials related to other poetry workshops and groups, including correspondence, photographs, and promotional ephemera. Drafts and correspondence for Honton's master's thesis, "To Make Up a Year and a Sphere," personal correspondence, and materials compiled by Honton on her family history and personal memoirs, such as photographs, stories, clippings, and ephemera, are also included in this collection. The collection is dated from the 1970s to 2020, with the bulk of materials dated from 1974-1988.

A scrapbook of materials related to the Woman’s Poetry Workshop at the Ohio State University containing correspondence, event pamphlets, photocopies of articles, and photographs of members and events is also included. This accession also contains two volumes of compilations of poetry for the workshop and performance group “Montage," as well as personal correspondence, promotional material for other poetry events and publications, photocopies of news clippings about poets and poetry events, and photographs of poets and events. The materials are dated 1974-2016.

Scope and Contents
Accession No. RARE.2020.0028 contains compilations of poetry written by Margaret Honton, and short stories written by other individuals from workshops attended by Honton. Also included are photocopies of photographs and family histories compiled by Honton for a family reunion in 2000, as well as materials collected for Honton's memoir in progress, "Juxtapositions," including photographs, clippings, ephemera, correspondence, resumes, and autobiographical stories. Materials are dated 1970s-2020.
