Dorothy Alban was a 1938 graduate of North High School in Columbus, Ohio. During her time at North High School, Alban was a member of the Arro Atheltic Club, the Girl's Athletic Association, Omega Sigma Phi, and the book club. She was also inducted into Delta Beta (now called Delta Sigma Beta), a national junior sorority for high school girls. In 1938, Alban attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She attended many social events held by the fraternity Delta Upsilon and the sorority Delta Delta Delta.
The Dorothy Alban North High School (Columbus, Ohio) and Miami University Scrapbook, dated 1934-1938, contains programs and dance cards from events Dorothy Alban attended when she was a student at North High School and Miami University. Alban's scrapbook begins with materials from Arro Club activities, such as invitations to the Arro Club's rush events, and subsequently Arro Club membership events once she became a member. Inside the scrapbook, Alban wrote a summary of some of the events she attended under the materials. Dance cards for North High School's formals and other social events are also included. During Alban's time in high school, she also attended fraternity and sorority events at Miami University, before she eventually enrolled there in 1938.
Alban grouped the materials inside the scrapbook primarily by the hosting orgainziation of the events she attended, and items from her high school and college events are intermixed. The scrapbook begins with materials related to the Arro Club, then the following pages contain materials from dances she attended, events with Delta Upsilon and Delta Beta, Miami University programs, and Christmas formals.
Some of the programs and dance cards that were originally pasted inside the scrapbook became loose and are now stored separately from the scrapbook. These loose materials are listed in the inventory in the order Alban orginally attached them within her scrapbook.
