The Monroe Upholstering Company Records are arranged alphabetically by file title.
The catalog pages are in order by product number with lists of fabric prices at the end. The fasteners that held the catalog pages together were removed for storage, but the physical order of the pages has been maintained. The catalog photographs are stored by size, and each size of photograph is in order by product number. The polaroid photographs of furniture are also stored in order by product number.

Upholstering or upholstery is the practice of covering a piece of furniture, especially one with a seat, with fabric and filling the fabric with soft padding. It can also mean the materials used to upholster furniture.
The Monroe Upholstering Company was a manufacturer and wholesaler of upholstered furniture, including sofas and armchairs. The company was located in Baltimore, Maryland and was active during the 1960s and 1970s.
The Monroe Upholstering Company Records, dated 1969-1973, contain catalogs and photographs from catalogs that were used to advertise and sell furniture by the Monroe Upholstering Company. Each catalog page or catalog photograph includes a product number and a description of the product with dimensions. The records also contain a set of polaroid photographs of furniture, which are also labeled with product numbers. Also included are clippings of furniture advertisements mostly from other manufacturers or retailers, drawings of furniture for use in advertisements, some correspondence and notes about products and prices, and a fabric sample. These records apparently were used by an employee of the Monroe Upholstering Company, named Gerald (Gerry or Jerry) Gordon.
