 Biographical Note

As of 2025, Jay Hoster is a former bookstore owner and author based in Columbus, Ohio. Hoster is a collector and historian on the Columbus, Ohio author and illustrator James Thurber.

James Thurber (1894-1961) was an American cartoonist and humor writer. Thurber's cartoons and short stories were primarily published in The New Yorker, but he also published several plays, musicals, children's books, and numerous collections of his stories and drawings.

 Scope and Contents

The Jay Hoster Papers includes correspondence, a manuscript for Hoster's article in Columbus Monthly about the author James Thurber, and one magazine featuring an article about Hoster's James Thurber collection. Material is dated 1951 to 2000.
